The plans have been extremely controversial since they were first announced
A decision to bring in controversial parking charges across 22 car parks and three coastal areas in Wirral have been described as 'really difficult' by those who are backing the measures. Wirral Council has faced significant opposition to the proposals but they were approved by a majority of councillors on December 3.
Cllr Gail Jenkinson said the changes to on-street parking on South Parade would help create more parking spaces by providing specific bays for people to park in. However these arguments did little to reassure or convince the members of the public at the meeting who responded with angry outcry. Several petitions signed by thousands of people against the plans were also sent to the council.
