From oats to apples, experts reveal the surprising culprits for bloating and gut trouble
. It’s one of those pesky things that’s painful, inconvenient and makes you unbutton a pair of jeans under a jumper for some freedom. According to experts, it’s more common in females, and even more so as we age. The causes can range from stress and too much salt to digestive issues and food intolerances.
Isabelle Spellisy, nutritionist at Innermost, adds that dairy is a major cause. “About 65 per cent of the world’s population struggle to digest lactose, resulting in bloating and other digestive issues.” To know if this is you, pay attention to how you feel after eating dairy, or drinking your minding latte. Lactose-free alternatives like plant-based milk is the solution.
There are ways to help though, she says, including using hot water bottles to ease discomfort and keeping hydrated.
