Alloa-based Scott has overtaken Sir Chris Hoy’s tally as Scotland’s most decorated Olympic athlete with eight Olympic medals to his name, two gold and six silver.
David Wilkie ’s widow has told how the late swimming champion was a huge fan of Scotland’s new most decorated Olympian Duncan Scott – but joked he was still the best.
“I think David would have thought Duncan becoming Scotland’s most decorated Olympian was fabulous. He always mentioned and talked about Duncan. He would be very happy for Duncan. David thought he was a great guy. The last Scottish man to win gold in an individual swimming event at the Olympics was Wilkie in 1976.
