Rachel and Omar Minaya were married for more than 30 years and have two adult sons, Teddy and Justin, the latter of whom plays for the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers. Omar, 65, previously served as general manager for the Montreal Expos from 2002-04 and New York Mets from 2004-10. He also served in a scouting capacity for the Texas Rangers, as vice president of baseball operations for the San Diego Padres from 2011-15, and as a special assistant for the Mets from 2017 to 2020. The longtime MLB executive joined the Yankees’ front office in January 2023.
“In a very short time, Omar has become a beloved member of the Yankees organization, where he regularly displays his unique ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds,” the Yankees added in its statement. “Over the course of his distinguished career in the game, he has freely given to others with kindness and friendship, and in this unthinkable time, we offer Omar, his sons Justin and Teddy, and their family and friends our profound condolences.
