Nowhere does Boxing Day (or rather night) quite like Wigan . Each year, Wigan town centre overflows with revellers wearing their best fancy dress gear to celebrate. This annual celebration has been going on for years, but exactly why the tradition started is unknown. What is certain is that the annual spectacle is messy, fun, glorious, and unlike anything you've ever experienced.
The fancy dress night has become increasingly popular over the years, with as many as 20,000 party-goers having been known to join the party. Along with the usual array of superheroes, cartoon characters and cheerleaders, there are always a host of weird and wonderful costumes. To honour the all-out effort of Wiganers on Boxing Night, we've put together a gallery of some of the best costumes going back a decade to 2014.
