🏴 The first release of captive-bred wildcats in Scotland has been approved, with the endangered felines to be let out in the Cairngorms this summer
The European wildcat is widespread in southern and eastern Europe as well as Turkey and parts of France, but in the UK it is highly endangered.
Domestic cats are descended from the Middle Eastern wildcat, a separate species from the European one. Nature Scot, the government agency which approved the release, said it would mark a “crucial point in the long journey towards conserving this iconic species”.
