Wildfire growth across the state is quickly approaching 250,000 acres, with the Globe Fire in Interior Alaska seeing rapid growth yesterday due to windy and hot weather.

Our ridge of high pressure is still firmly in control across the state, although it is set to flatten and weaken in the coming days. We’ll once again see thunderstorm development through the Interior and the Copper River Basin. Some storms could even fire as far north as the Brooks Range, where a red flag warning is in effect for later today along the south slopes of the eastern Brooks Range.
Southeast Alaska will see highs in the 60s and 70s, with some isolated showers in the forecasts. A better return of moisture arrives Saturday, with scattered showers looking likely well into next week.
