Tough decisions may have to be made

A statement over whether to expect Wilko store closures and job losses has been made by the company's administrators. The home and garden retailer, based in Worksop, confirmed on Thursday, August 10 that it had made the "difficult decision to enter into administration."

The business has more than 400 stores and 12,000 staff members across the UK, including several stores across Nottinghamshire. Around 2,000 of those staff are based within the Bassetlaw district of the county. As reported by MyLondon, Wilko's administrators have now issued an update regarding its store closures and staff redundancies. The statement has been provided by PwC, which has been appointed administrator of Wilko. In the statement, the administrators make clear there will be no immediate redundancies at any stores across the country. All stores will continue to remain open at present.

But the statement warns if a search to find buyers fails, store closures and job losses will be made. A PwC spokesperson said: "Initially, Wilko will continue to trade all stores without any immediate redundancies as discussions with interested parties continue. If buyers for some or all of the group are not found, it is likely that store closures and redundancies will follow."
