Alabama baseball entered the final two weeks of its season angling to get a hosting seed and bring the NCAA tournament to Tuscaloosa for the second straight year. Instead, after a middling stretch of .500 play andThe Crimson Tide will learn if it made the NCAA tournament on Memorial Day at 11 a.m. CT. The selection show will air on ESPN2.
“Probably against the advice of everybody else, I really don’t think there’s really much of a question ,” Vaughn said following UA’s 10-5 conference tournament loss to South Carolina. “For me, I’m a big believer in not leaving my fate in anybody else’s hands. That’s how I approach everything in life; I don’t want my future, I won’t want my career, I don’t want anything dictated in the hands of anybody else.
Last season, UA rode the tumult of a gambling scandal into a 10-2 stretch, punching a ticket to the super regional round under current pitching coach Jason Jackson. The pitching has buckled under injuries this year; The Tide conceded four home runs to the Gamecocks and dropped a road series to a rival, but struggling Auburn side. The Tide has seven pitchers who have thrown at least 30 innings, only Braylon Myers possesses a sub-3.00 ERA.
“If they asked me, I’d be really happy to tell them ‘Take ‘em all, baby, let’s go.’ This league is different and I didn’t understand that till I got here,” Vaughn, previously at Maryland, said of the SEC.
