Childcare costs have increased in San Antonio , some childcare facilities have had an increase of 25% in the past year. Availability at childcare centers is also becoming scarce.

Solis told us parents who are having babies this summer could be waiting a while to get their child enrolled. Part of the reason: a lack of workers. According to information from County Health Rankings and Roadmaps, there is a shortage of childcare in Bexar County. For every thousand children under the age of five, Bexar County has four childcare centers, Texas has an average of five, and nationally there is an average of seven.

Vequist said these factors are also part of the reason childcare costs have increased up to 25% in the past year. Solis added that inflation isn’t helping.
