Eight Palestinian athletes will be competing in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris as war continues in the besieged enclave of Gaza.Jibril Rajoub, the chair of the Palestine Olympic Committee, said, per AFP: 'We want this participation to be a message from the Palestinians to the world that it is time for them to be free in their homeland.
The other athletes gained entry through the Universality Places program, which aims to increase representation in the Games by allowing athletes from countries that have not qualified through the standard qualification processes to participate in the Olympics.Ismail told NBC he was thinking about young Palestinians while training for the Games.'I'm thinking of kids in Palestine...in Gaza, also, and I hope they can see me as a role model,' he told the outlet last year.
