Castro hit a three-run homer in the second inning on his 27th birthday to power the Twins to a 6-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox, their third in as many nights to secure the series sweep, Wednesday night at Target Field in Minneapolis.
The White Sox did get a pair of runs back in the third inning, getting solo homers off Twins starter Joe Ryan from Kevin Pillar and Korey Lee to make it a 4-2 game. Chicago then made it a one-run game in the fifth when Braden Shewmake stole third base, then stole home after Danny Mendrick struck out. But the Twins pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the inning when Max Kepler hit an RBI single and later scored after White Sox reliever Deivi Garcia threw a wild pitch that got past Lee.
Ryan had another solid start for the Twins, going six innings and allowing four hits and three runs while striking out eight. He outdueled Crochet, who lasted just four innings after allowing seven hits and five runs while fanning six. Matt Bowman pitched a shutout seventh inning, Brock Stewart tossed a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a strikeout and Griffin Jax followed up with a 1-2-3 ninth with a strikeout to preserve the Twins' lead.
