An organization that helps veterans in Wilson County is inviting the public to its first-ever ‘BBQ throwdown.’

– On Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., hundreds are expected to gather at the Wilson County Expo Center in Floresville to watch teams from the Air Force and Army compete and determine who makes the best BBQ.and Coffee, Cars & Veterans are hosting the free event, which honors the late Sgt. Robert M. Johnson, a U.S. Army Vietnam Bronze Star Recipient and native of Floresville.
“This is about building comradery and raising awareness about local veterans services,” said Ray Herrera, with the Wilson County Veterans Services Office. The office aims to help veterans transition into civilian life. It estimates about 5,000 veterans live in Wilson County.Stephania Jimenez is an anchor on The Nightbeat.
