Pisces on Milner Road in Heswall is one of three finalists vying for the prestigious Environment and Sustainable Business Award at the National Fish & Chip Awards. The award recognizes chippies making significant strides in environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.

A Wirral fish and chip shop has been shortlisted for a national award recognizing chippies striving to be environmentally responsible. The National Fish & Chip Awards has a special category dedicated to Environment and Sustainable Businesses. Three fantastic chippies from Anglesey, Merseyside, and Yorkshire have been shortlisted for the chance to win at next month's ceremony.

The awards are run by the National Federation of Fish Friers, which groups chippies into different categories based on whether they operate as takeaways, restaurants, chains, or mobile units. The fish and chip shops shortlisted for this award all demonstrate an outstanding commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices to increase business success in all areas. An industry panel, comprising senior figures from the fish and chip sector, judged and scored all the entries. And the top three challengers have been identified. The Merseyside business named in the shortlist is Pisces on Milner Road in Heswall. The other two businesses shortlisted were Two Gate Fisheries in Barnsley and Finney's in Benllech. Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, said: “This year has seen a brilliant array of submissions in this category, and we are very appreciative of all the fish and chip shops that are pushing themselves to be champions of environmental and sustainability best practices, regardless of what round they’ve made it to in the awards. We have always taken our environmental responsibilities very seriously, so we have broadened the criteria of this category over the last few years. Sustainably sourced fish is extremely important to the fish and chip industry but looking to the future we must start to look at our environmental impact right across our operations and these businesses are leading the way for the rest of the industry to follow.” He added: “This category is of huge importance as it is helping to reshape the industry by delivering a clear message that it is possible to take a sustainability-first approach and achieve long-term success across the board. We can’t wait to celebrate with the finalists at the ceremony.” The three finalists have been invited to the awards ceremony on February 26 at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge to find out if they will received the Environment and Sustainable Business baton from 2024 winner, Hornsea-based Whitehead’s Fish and Chips. The National Fish & Chip Awards is in its 37th year and the awards acknowledges and champions businesses and individuals throughout the UK making outstanding contributions to foodservice to ensure the nation enjoys its fish and chips, receives great customer service and professionals in the industry have access to opportunities to further their growth
