The fragility of the Aces' roster was exposed in their Game 3 loss to the Liberty.
NEW YORK — One of Becky Hammon’s consistent refrains during the 2023 season has been that, compared to the 2022 champions, this year’s have done more with less. The front office’s goal of the offseason was to increase the team’s depth, but due to injury and Riquna Williams’ legal trouble, Las Vegas’ rotation wasn’t any deeper than it was last year. In fact, this season’s group was thinner.
Though the Aces turned to Young and Plum offensively in Games 1 and 2, that was a trickier proposition in Game 3 when had the Young assignment and was the first New York defender able to match Young’s physicality. Advertisement Las Vegas needed Gray to either set the table or create her own offense as it’s nearly unbeatable when she does both. But the lack of either contributed to the Aces posting two sub-20-point quarters Sunday.
