The makers of Wolf Hall chose some of England's well known historical locations to recreate the Tudor times
bringing with it all the machinations of the court of Henry VIII and evoking the colourful and tempestuous nature of the Tudor era.Returning for the second series of the saga are many of the cast from the first including Damian Lewis as Henry VIII and Sir Mark Rylance as Thomas Cromwell, the king’s right hand man.
The Tudor place of Hampton Court was once the home of Cardinal Wolsey and then Henry VIII, who used it to display his wealth and power., it was used for the first time and the crew were given special permission to film in the Great Hall. “The challenge for us was to create spaces in buildings that were authentic in look and feel, that could help us evoke the sense of what life must have been like”, he said, “We did have one big advantage this time – the wonderful reception of the historians and curators at Hampton Court Palace who welcomed us for the first time.
“The tapestries on the walls are said to be, after the Crown Jewels, the most valuable thing that England owns.”Vicars Close, Wells Cathedral in Somerset was also used for location filming Based at the southern edge of the Mendip Hills in Somerset, its cathedral has been home to the Bishop of Bath and Wells since the 13th century.Montacute House and grounds have been used for filming both series.
