The 56-year-old woman died in a grain bin on Glinz Farm Wednesday in Pingree, North Dakota after two trucks unloaded sunflower seeds into the bin while she was inside
A 56-year-old woman reportedly drowned in a vat of sunflower seeds on Glinz Farm in Pingree, North Dakota.
The unidentified victim died inside a gigantic metal grain bin on Wednesday at Glinz Farm in Pingree, North Dakota while she helped two trucks unload sunflower seeds. She was wearing a safety harness at the time, but it had not been attached to anything – meaning she was sucked beneath the swell of seeds after losing her footing.
There have been more than 900 cases of people getting trapped in grain bins over the last 50 years, although that number is likely much higher due to unreported, non-fatal accidents. According to Purdue University research released earlier this year, there have been at about 370 entrapment cases in grain bins over the last 10 years and those cases are fatal more than 60% of the time.
