Victoria Police said a 58-year-old woman fell down an embankment into a drain on Raglan Street about 8.50pm on Easter Monday. The fast-flowing water swept her away before she stopped in a culvert and grabbed hold of a metal pole. “With water reaching her neck, she cried out for help but wasn’t heard over the roar of the water,” police said in a statement. “Miraculously, the woman was able to fight against the force of the water and climb up the embankment to safety.”the running track at the Stawell Gift.as lightning struck close to the MCG. The Bureau of Meteorology’s nearby Olympic Park gauge, as of early Tuesday, has recorded 51.8 millimetres of rain since 9am on Monday.
A severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and damaging winds remains active for parts of central and eastern Victoria on Tuesday, although wind gusts peaking at 90 km/h and the most intense rainfall is expected to ease in the morning.Melbourne’s eastern suburbs are within the weather bureau’s alert zone, alongside much of the High Country, and West and South Gippsland. Specific towns include Wonthaggi, Bright, Morwell, Warragul, Moe and Falls Creek.
Showers are forecast for Melbourne with an expected maximum of 20 degrees on Tuesday. In the morning and early afternoon, winds will strengthen and the chance of a thunderstorm could rise.
