According to Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick, 29-year-old Latasha Mott has been arraigned on manslaughter charges concerning the death of her daughter, 5-year-old Nefertiti Harris.“She was wanted for questioning and spoke to the police. At the time, police were searching for a missing child based on relatives’ concerns. When she stated her child died as a result of excessive corporal punishment, she was arrested," Fitzpatrick told CNY Central.
Court documents state that Mott struck Nefertiti multiple times while she was in the shower, including with a belt, which ultimately caused her death. Mott then brought her daughter’s body into a wooded area to conceal it from law enforcement, for which she was charged with disposal of a corpse, a class E felony, according to court documents.
The Syracuse Police Crime Scene Unit is on the scene actively searching for the child's body and officers were seen carrying shovels and forensic equipment toward a baseball diamond.
