A 63-year-old man was found dead on New Year's Day in Ipswich, England. A woman in her 50s has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in a house in Ipswich. 63-year-old William McNicholl, also known as Billy, was found dead on the evening of New Year’s Day at a home in Hawthorn Drive. A post-mortem suggested he had died from head injuries and a single stab wound. The home was cordoned off for several days, and while this has now lifted Suffolk Police say there will be an increased police presence in the area following the death.
The force is leading a murder inquiry and on Saturday a woman in her 50s was arrested on suspicion of murder. She was taken to a police station for questioning, and she is still in custody. Billy’s family are being supported by specialist officers. A cordon was in place at the home for several days. Officers are asking anyone with information, or who saw anything suspicious near the house between December 24 and January 1 to get in touch. In a statement released earlier this week, Detective Superintendent Mike Brown said: ‘We continue to appeal for anyone with any information to come forward while the murder inquiry into the death of Billy continues. ‘Billy’s family are being supported by specially trained officers through what is an extremely distressing time for them. ‘A large number of officers and staff have already been involved in the investigation, with searches, house-to-house and CCTV enquiries taking place. ‘Residents should expect to see a continued increased police presence over the coming days. ‘We are exploring all and any lines of enquiry and currently believe this to be an isolated incident and I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how small you think it may be, to get in touch with police.
