The woman was bitten on the face, neck and arms
Police were called to a house on Orrets Meadow Road on the Woodchurch Estate at 5.30pm on Saturday, September 16. It followed reports a 51-year-old woman had been attacked by a dog.
She was taken to hospital, where she still remains. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police said. A man also suffered injuries to his hand and was treated at the scene by paramedics.A man in his 50s was previously arrested on suspicion of owning a banned breed and having a dog dangerously out of control. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Police today confirmed the breed of dog was an American Pit Bull, which are banned in the UK. A spokesperson for the force said the dog has been humanely destroyed and enquiries remain ongoing. The ECHO spoke to people living in the local area who said they saw a large police and ambulance presence in the area.
