A Sydney woman has been charged with allegedly sending more than 32,000 emails over a 24-hour period to the office of a Federal MP.

Australian Federal Police arrested the 34-year-old Werrington woman at her home on Wednesday and she appeared before Penrith Local Court today, where she was granted bail with strict conditions to reappear on April 11.Credit:Police will allege the woman used multiple domains to send 32,397 emails over a 24-hour period until her arrest, which resulted in continued disruption and harassment.

“The volume of the emails impaired workers from operating IT systems and stopped members of the public from making contact with the office,” an AFP spokesperson said. Some of the bail requirements confirmed through NSW Communities and Justice included the woman could not approach, communicate or attempt to make contact with the Attorney-General’s Department by any means other than through a legal representative. The 34-year-old was also not to be in possession of more than one phone or laptop and had to provide passwords and PIN codes to a federal agent, and cannot access any social media.

The woman was charged with one count of committing unauthorised impairment of electronic communication, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment.
