Emergency services evacuated the pier as firefighters helped bring the woman down safely
Emergency services were called to Central Pier at around 9am this morning . Police evacuated the area after concerned bystanders spotted the woman scaling the 33m high amusement ride.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene and the Urban Search and Rescue team used rope lines to bring her down safely. The incident was resolved by around 10.30am.Lancashire Constabulary said the woman has been detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act. This empowers police to take someone from a public place to a place of safety and be assessed.
A force spokesperson said: "We were called at shortly before 9am today to reports of a woman climbing on the big wheel on Central Pier at Blackpool. "Emergency services attended and the woman was brought down safely."
