A 66-year-old woman tragically died after what is suspected to be an allergic reaction to the dye used before a CT scan. Her family alleges the hospital should have been more cautious given her existing kidney condition. The incident occurred in February 2024, and the family received the autopsy report ten months later, revealing an anaphylactic reaction to the dye. An inquest is now underway to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
Yvonne Graham, a 66-year-old woman, tragically passed away after what is suspected to be an allergic reaction to the dye used prior to a CT scan. Her daughter, Yolanda, 39, believes that the dye should not have been administered to her mother, considering Yvonne's stage three kidney disease . According to Yolanda, a hairdresser from Daventry, Northamptonshire, the incident occurred on February 1, 2024, when Yvonne underwent a CT scan at the hospital.
Yolanda was waiting outside the CT scan room when, minutes after her mother was taken in, the doors were suddenly flung open and a crash team rushed in. Yolanda heard a distressed sound from her mother, like she was struggling to breathe, before the medical team arrived. The autopsy report revealed that Yvonne was placed on a ventilator, but after no pulse was detected, medical assistance was discontinued due to the extremely poor prognosis. The report also indicated that Yvonne suffered an anaphylactic reaction to the contrast dye, routinely injected before CT scans. Ten months later, the family received the autopsy report, which stated that the initial cardiac arrest's cause remained unclear, but the probability was linked to anaphylaxis from the contrast dye used during the CT scan. Unfortunately, an initial tryptase level – a test that aids in determining if a severe allergic reaction occurred – wasn't conducted despite being requested. Yolanda expressed her disbelief, stating that her mother shouldn't have died from a precautionary scan and criticized the hospital's communication delay of ten months regarding the incident. Yvonne's family is now seeking answers and justice through an inquest
