A Long Island woman drowned Sunday morning while trying to rescue her dog in the Connetquot River, according to Suffolk County police.
An employee at the Oakdale Yacht Club called 911 at around 8 a.m. Sunday after seeing a woman in the water, according to a statement from the police department. Catherine Andreau, 62, was pulled from the river and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Andreau jumped in the water at 1:30 a.m. to rescue her dog that had jumped in, according to police.
