Libby Vernon, a 23-year-old woman, orchestrated a shocking deception, fabricating pregnancies and even a gender reveal party for her unsuspecting long-term partner. This is not the first instance of Vernon's elaborate charade. In 2023, she claimed to have fallen pregnant by an 'abusive' ex-partner, even presenting a death certificate for the baby, stating the cause of death as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
After the supposed death, Vernon claimed to be carrying twins and shared a photo with her partner, announcing the arrival of the newborns. Her partner was elated, but the joy was short-lived. Vernon revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage. However, she later backtracked, announcing the pregnancy was continuing. She even went so far as to arrange a gender reveal party for the twins with family in Cumbria. The deception unraveled when Vernon took her partner to the hospital, claiming the babies were no longer alive. Upon arriving at the hospital, he discovered that Vernon was not on the maternity ward and was wearing a silicone baby bump. This revelation left him 'significantly distressed'. Prosecutor Pamela Fee commended the court for allowing more time to review the complex charges, stating that such cases were rare and required extensive investigation. Vernon's defense attorney, Mike Woolaghan, pointed out the lack of guidelines for the offenses committed and highlighted the need to explore the reasons behind Vernon's actions. Vernon pleaded guilty to four charges of sending communication conveying false information, five charges of sending false communication with intent to cause harm, and one charge of sending a false certificate regarding registration of a birth or death. Her sentencing is scheduled for March 19, pending a bail agreement with conditions restricting her movement and contact with the victim
