A suspect search is underway after a woman was shot in a La Presa home on Tuesday, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

A 9-year-old child, who was not at home at the time of the shooting, was at one point considered missing but has since been located and is safe, SDSO saidA woman was shot and killed in the East County community of La Presa on Tuesday after a 911 call reported a break-in at the home, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

The SDSO received two calls from a family member around 10:25 a.m. alerting them to an incident at a home in the 800 block of La Presa Avenue. When deputies arrived, they found a woman lying on the couch with severe injuries, SDSO Homicide Lt. Mike Krugh said. Deputies forced their way inside the home and attempted to resuscitate the woman. No one else was inside at the time, Krugh said. Despite lifesaving measures, The woman died from her injuries.

If you live in the Spring Valley area, be aware of increased law enforcement activity in the 800 block of La Presa Avenue following a shooting.The deadly shooting prompted a search for a male suspect Tuesday morning, an SDSO spokesperson said. As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, Krugh said they had identified a person of interest and there was no threat to the community, although SDSO did not have a suspect in custody.
