Woman reportedly spiked after being 'bought drink by man' on night out with friends in Manchester's Gay Village
A woman was reportedly spiked after being 'bought a drink by a man' when enjoying a night out with her friends in Manchester's Gay Village.
Following this, Coun Northwood said that the man was later seen being 'ejected by bouncers' from the bar and that her friend, who was staying on her sofa that night, started experiencing 'hallucinations' and was 'hyperventilating'. In response, Kate Green, Deputy Mayor for Policing, Crime, Criminal Justice and Fire said she has been 'assured' by Greater Manchester Police that they are pursuing lines of enquiry to identify the person responsible and said efforts are continuing to 'make sure Greater Manchester is somewhere where women and girls can enjoy our nightlife whilst having confidence in their safety.'
“This operation has already seen vulnerable people safeguarded, those committing offences arrested, predatory behaviour challenged, and likely incidents prevented in the City Centre, including around Canal Street. We remain focussed on ensuring everyone can enjoy a night out safely and will take robust action where offences are identified.”
“Spiking is an absolutely despicable crime which puts victims at great risk, and it will absolutely not be tolerated. There is a lot of hard work taking place to make sure Greater Manchester is somewhere where women and girls can enjoy our nightlife whilst having confidence in their safety.
