Officers seized packages as they entered HMP Lowdham Grange

A woman has been jailed after sending packages laced with drugs into a Nottinghamshire prison. Nottinghamshire Police said a number of packages were seized in October 2020 which were marked as legal documents, but contained paper with traces of spice.

Officers seized the drugs as they entered HMP Lowdham Grange and other packages were later recovered, containing drugs which would have been sent to jails in Wandsworth and Cardiff. A court has now heard that the drugs were being sent by 29-year-old Vivienne Williams from her address on Tudor Court North in Wembley.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on October 12, Williams was given 30 months in prison. Williams previously pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to convey banned articles into prison, possession of articles for use in fraud, and a communications offence relating to the prison phone calls.The plot was first uncovered after an investigation by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit . The total value of drugs seized was estimated at £17,000.

"Thankfully, we were soon on to them and the whole illegal operation was brought to an end before the drugs could reach their intended recipients. Drugs in prison will not be tolerated as their use is not only illegal, but also puts the health and safety of inmates and staff at risk. I am pleased the judge has recognised the seriousness of the matter with the jail term handed down."
