Angela Kandola feels she is being targeted as an Indian woman amid criticism of her planned appointment as deputy Nottinghamshire police and crime commissioner
The woman set to become Nottinghamshire's deputy police and crime commissioner says concerns about her appointment have "surprised" her and she feels she is being targeted as an Indian woman. Councillor Angela Kandola has represented the Berridge ward on Nottingham City Council since 2019 and a new petition by residents there claims some are "shocked" by her proposed appointment as deputy commissioner.
All police and crime commissioners are entitled to appoint a deputy to assist their work, but the previous Conservative PCC scrapped the role after winning the 2021 election. Mr Godden now wants the role to return and if approved by a meeting of Nottinghamshire's police and crime panel, Councillor Kandola would earn a salary £62,720 on a pro-rata basis - with the deputy PCC role entailing 33 hours of work a week.
"We are sadly aware of her poor performance as a local councillor in this ward." The petition goes on to allege concerns about Councillor Kandola having a "rude" and "aggressive" attitude. Mr Raja says he believes he will attract around 50 to 60 signatures on his petition, which he intends to send to the Labour Party nationally and locally.
