A woman who was shot near a hotel in Chelsea, Massachusetts, on Friday morning, has died, according to police.
The shooting occurred around 8:45 a.m. in the area of Eastern Avenue and Marginal Street, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden. She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The district attorney's office said the shooter ran from the scene and fled in a car. They said a man has been detained by police and is being interviewed in connection with the shooting. There is no apparent threat to the public.“Shootings and homicides tear at the very fabric of our community so we’re always keenly focused on doing what we can to bring perpetrators to justice," Hayden told reporters at the scene Friday.
The immediate area of the shooting was closed to through traffic for a time Friday, and detours were put in place. No further details have been released. Anyone with information is urged to call the Chelsea police tip line at 617-466-4880. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
