A woman told how she felt 'physically sick' after seeing what she described as an XL Bully with a baby swan in its mouth. The woman stumbled across the attack while out for an afternoon stroll in St Helens . Louise, 51, and from Haydock , was walking down St Helens canal, near Blackbrook Road, when she 'heard a big commotion'. She told the ECHO: 'I went for a walk along the bank where the swans live. Next thing I went past them and I heard a big commotion.

' Photographs taken by Louise show the horrifying aftermath of the attack. A clump of white feathers covered in blood can be seen amongst the cygnet's scattered feathers. WWR sees volunteers across Merseyside and Cheshire respond to injured birds and wildlife reports. But volunteer Jay Scott previously told the ECHO injured swans are being discovered 'daily' by the rescue team often having been attacked by a family pet or set upon deliberately.
