Woman with Down’s syndrome ‘loses independence’ after being stripped of free bus travel
Disabled bus pass users are campaigning against a council’s decision to stop them travelling for free before 9.30am.

It’s been a slap in the face for the community.’ ‘If something goes wrong with that system they are going to be totally thrown to the extent that they won’t want to go on the bus again,’ Pauline said.Earlier this week an audit report found the government ‘lacks any clear measures to promote employment for disabled people’ – despite vowing to get one million into jobs.
‘I was annoyed and scared when I heard about the changes because there will be more issues for us. It’s in your mind that you have to pay. I won’t be able to come and go easily.’Free bus passes for the elderly and disabled are already restricted to between 9.30am and 11pm across many parts of the UK, and it’s at the council’s discretion what happens in each county.
