Wage data shows female workers are, on average, earning £1,209 less a year than 13 years ago, – when the Conservatives were elected into the coalition government
The pay disparity between men and women in full-time work is not due to close until into the 2060s is also remaining stubbornly high and crept up by 0.1 per cent for women in full-time work, data published this week revealed.
By comparison, progress has stalled since 2010. It has fallen by 5.5 per cent overall and 2.4 per cent for those in full-time work., revealed – when taken with the Consumer Prices Index inflation – the median full-time woman worker’s salary in April 2010 was the equivalent of £33,809, whereas today it is £31,672.
Anneliese Dodds, shadow Women and Equalities Secretary, pinned the blame for the real-term fall in wages on the Conservative government, which came to power under a coalition in 2010.However, financial Secretary to the Treasury, Victoria Atkins, said: “Under the Conservatives, the gender pay gap has fallen significantly.”
“The past 13 years have seen the fireworks of Liz Truss and the damp squib of low growth and falling real-term wages,” Ms Dodds said.
