Woodhall Spa’s premier annual event, the 1940s Festival, is returning on July 8 and 9 this year for a weekend of celebrating the British home front.
It will officially take place on Saturday, July 8 and Sunday, July 9 – with a welcome dance event at Coronation Hall on Friday evening to kick off proceedings. A large festival market and a series of competitions are penned in for the 2023 event, alongside a special Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, subject to weather and aircraft serviceability – with timings to be officially confirmed on the day.
As for other free events, the grounds of the Petwood Hotel will play host to a full size Spitfire fighter aircraft, as well as ground crew and a mobile control tower – alongside a battle skirmish reenactment on both days. While general admission to the 1940s weekend is free, there are a number of ticketed events and activities for people to enjoy, as well as the small matter of Park & Ride charges.
You can park in one of five allocated areas, depending on the direction you approach Woodhall Spa from. Visitors coming from the north of the village will be best following the pink route to the Lancaster car park, from the south it is purple route to Dakota, from the east it is green route for Hurricane, from the west it is red route for Spitfire, and disabled badge holders need to follow blue for the Halifax car park.
