Working family forced to use foodbank as daughter asks 'mummy, are we poor?'
A Lancashire mum who works full time says the family has been forced to turn to food parcels after seeing food and fuel bills skyrocket.
"That is when the problems started as we could not keep up with the bills - it has been overwhelming because he’s lost a lot of money. My new job, I have to drive a lot and we have to wait for expenses the following month and if we don’t do it correctly, we don’t get it - but if you don’t put petrol in you can’t go to work.”
“We went to a school meeting and we were really embarrassed as the teachers were the ones who put Diane in touch with us, and we were surprised with the amount of food that she put in, it was fresh food and we were like, oh my goodness; we were so happy and we could pay for things for the kids that month, as sometimes they go to clubs, and we had had to stop that.”
“Diane has given us one month’s food parcel and we have food now. But generally, we can’t afford to go anywhere - we go for nature walks at weekends. I think conditions have worsened. I think it’s making life unaffordable; you're just working so you can live.
