From 12 May, working parents of children aged nine months and up can apply for 15 hours of government-funded childcare
More parents can soon apply for the next round of the government’s latest expansion of its free childcare scheme. The free 15 hours childcare scheme will allow working parents of children aged nine months to three years to receive 15 hours of free childcare per week from September.
Free childcare rollout The government announced in March that applications for the second phase of the expansion of free childcare would open on 12 May. The DfE explained: ‘From that date, eligible working parents of children from 9 months old will be able to register to access 15 hours of government-funded childcare a week, with the offer beginning from September 2024.
30 hours of free childcare This is the next round of the ‘free childcare’ rollout, announced in the 2023 Spring Budget. While applications open this week, the latest round of free childcare places will not be available until September.
