What are the working rules for Queen’s funeral Bank Holiday and will you get the day off
Queen Elizabeth II's funeral is set to take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19 September, and new monarch King Charles III has confirmed it will be a national bank holiday.
While many presume this means they will get a day off work, new guidance from the government claims that it is up to each employer whether to give staff the day off. "We also expect employers to respond sensitively to requests from workers who wish to take the day of the funeral off work.”There are also currently no plans for the day of Her Majesty's funeral to become an annual bank holiday, and 'no decision has yet been made' concerning a bank holiday for King Charles' Coronation, with a decision set to be 'made nearer the time.'
Her Majesty's coffin remained at Balmoral for two days while staff at the estate paid their respects to the late monarch, and on Sunday 11 September her coffin embarked on the first stage of the journey to Her Majesty's final resting place.
