Report does not go far enough

The World Gold Council 's latest report on the gold industry seeks to present the gold industry and its members as responsible, paternalistic and taking a stand against the perceived abuses suffered by artisanal and small-scale gold miners . It does this through a series of action points for governments, the industry and gold buyers to follow that fail to address underlying causes and come across as self-righteous and patronising.

And when they do, the military intervention by the governments of Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, supported to some extent by the US military and other US agencies, barely makes a dent in the same way that the decades-long war on drugs has failed to stop the growth and prosperity of the illegal drugs trade.A misconception is that AGSM is an individualistic occupation. The reality is that, in most cases, there is nothing artisanal or small-scale to this activity.
