Maria Branyas, who was thought to be the world's oldest person at 117 years old, has passed away, her family has announced.
The Gerontology Research Group, which is responsible for confirming the age of people presumed to be more than 110 years old, recognised Ms Branyas as the world's oldest person after the previous title-holder, French nun Lucile Randon, died last year.The Gerontology Research Group now lists Japan's Tomiko Itooka, aged 116, as the most elderly living person.
The biography on her X account, named "Super Catalan Grandma", read: "I am old, very old, but not an idiot."
