Donald Trump has become the first former president to be formally arrested as he arrives at court in New York.
He will hear criminal charges relating to hush payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016, which prosecutors allege were improperly recorded as legal expenses – the first time an ex-US president has faced a criminal case.but was not handcuffed or placed in a jail cell and no mugshot was taken. During the brief hearing, where no cameras are permitted, he is expected to plead not guilty after hearing the charges.
Crowds of his supporters lined the streets and gathered outside Trump Tower to catch a glimpse of him as he emerged to travel to the city in his motorcade.
