Microsoft saw a sharp fall in game sales over the Christmas period as players bemoan the lack of exclusive titles available on Xbox.
Things are arguably worse for games than other industries because the production problems caused by the pandemic are now at their greatest, since it was relatively easy to finish of titles that were almost complete before lockdown and now everything new has been made while most people were working from home.
The main problem, as acknowledged by Microsoft, is its lack of exclusive games, with nothing of note out during that period, except for. This was made worse by the fact that there were also less third party titles out than usual for the time of year. According to Microsoft this is due to, ‘declines in first party content and lower monetisation in third party content, partially offset by growth in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.’ In other words, not enough new games, from them or anyone else.
