The high winds could cause property damage, power outages, blowing dust and hazardous travel conditions across the Front Range and Eastern Plains.
Customers in Boulder, Gilpin, and Jefferson Counties could have their powerlines temporarily de-energized due to elevated wildfire risks this weekend.DENVER — Xcel Energy is warning customers in some Colorado counties that their power might be shut off due to high winds this weekend.
"Turning off customers’ power is not something we take lightly, but intended to decrease the risk of wildfire," the company said on social media."If any proactive de-energization is necessary, we will attempt to contact affected customers directly." In the Denver area and on Colorado's eastern plains, a High Wind Watch, a Red Flag Warning and a Fire Weather Watch are all in effect for the weekend. The High Wind Warning goes from 10 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.
