Announcing the ban, Rishi Sunak said the breed was a 'danger to our communities, particularly children'
The Prime Minister said the breed was a “danger to our communities, particularly children”, and that ministers would draw up plans to prohibit ownership of the dogs by 2024.
“I want to reassure people that we are urgently working on ways to stop these attacks and protect the public. Today I have tasked ministers to bring together police and experts to firstly define the breed of dog behind these attacks with a view to then outlawing it.”are not currently defined as a specific breed under British law. The dogs pose a particular threat to the public since they have been cross-bred with other breeds to enhance their muscularity.
“New laws will be in place by the end of the year,” he said. “These dogs are dangerous. I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe.”
