A yacht named Sea Story sank in the Red Sea, leading to the disappearance of more than a dozen people, with two Britons believed to be included. The search operation is ongoing, with 16 individuals still missing and 28 rescued. The incident is believed to be caused by a sudden large wave, leading to the capsizing of the vessel within five minutes.
More than a dozen people are missing after a boat sank in the Red Sea off Egypt's coast, with two Britons believed to be among the missing. The yacht Sea Story , which had 44 people on board, including 31 tourists from different countries and 13 crew members, is the subject of an ongoing search operation. The Red Sea region's governor, Amr Hanafi, stated that 28 people were rescued, while 16 remain missing, including 12 foreign nationals and four Egyptians.
Preliminary reports suggest that a large wave caused the vessel to capsize within five minutes. The rescued individuals suffered only minor injuries, and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office confirmed that they are providing consular support to British nationals involved. The yacht, owned by an Egyptian national, was involved in a multi-day diving trip and had obtained all necessary permits before the incident. Although the cause of the sinking is still under investigation, it is believed to be unrelated to technical issues, as the vessel was last checked for naval safety in March. The boat had left Port Ghalib in Marsa Alam on Sunday and was scheduled to reach Hurghada Marina by November 29th. A distress call was received at 5:30 AM on Monday local time
