A Yankees legend has a message for Juan Soto: You're the boss.
As a former star player who once called Scott Boras his agent, Rodriguez can relate to Soto, who is also a generational talent and will soon be an extremely rich man. Soto is set to become a free agent this offseason, but Rodriguez believes he should make pinstripes a permanent home if he truly loves it — now. All he has to do is tell Boras.. “And he’s a proven winner. He’s very likable. He can go to Scott Boras and say — look, I went to him and said I’m going to take less to stay in New York.
Now, it seems, Rodriguez is telling Soto to control your own career and do what you want, though he acknowledged a different dynamic, and perhaps less say, with Boras in his mid-20s for his first big deal than his second one when he was 31.
