New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone has enforced a strange jewelry restriction for outfielder Alex Verdugo in his first season with the franchise.
In addition to shaving his beard in order to comply with the team's unique policy on facial hair that has been in place since 1976, the team has also installed another guideline for the 27-year-old to adhere by.Throughout his career, the outfielder has often donned multiple chains around his neck.
"It’s kind of been hard, man," Verdugo said."Because usually I’m used to wearing like three of four." In the locker room after a win against the Houston Astros during the Yankees' season-opening series, Verdugo, who played with just one chain on, could be seen wearing multiple chains, including one with a No. 24 pendant on it, his new jersey number in New York.Verdugo was acquired by the Yankees during the offseason. In exchange, New York sent a trio of pitchers—Greg Weissert, Richard Fitts and Nicholas Judice—to the Red Sox.
