A massive pile of rubbish, including hazardous materials, has been illegally dumped beside the M8 in Glasgow for almost a year, posing a safety risk to locals and prompting calls for action.

A massive amount of rubbish, including beds, mattresses, and hazardous gas canisters, has been illegally dumped beside the M8 in Glasgow for almost a year. Residents are outraged by the unsightly mess, which poses a safety risk to locals in the Broomhouse area. The waste has now formed into two large mounds, sparking concerns that children might climb on it.

Councillor Kevin Lalley, who represents Baillieston Labour, has been actively trying to have the rubbish removed since it was brought to his attention. Initially, there was confusion over who was responsible for the cleanup. While Glasgow City Council was initially contacted, it has since been confirmed that the Scottish Road Partnership will handle the removal. The illegal dumping is believed to be occurring at night when drivers access the site via Dykehead Street. Chris and Kim Cameron, a local couple, regularly walk their dog Leo past the site and have expressed their frustration at the eyesore. 'It is frustrating. People don't seem to look after the place they are from,' said Chris. 'Bags of clothes have been left - you could give them to a charity shop as it doesn't cost anything. We still come out and Leo enjoys it but this is about having pride in where you are from.' Kim added: 'We want to keep spaces like this for the community. You want to get a coffee and walk the dog on Sunday morning and enjoy it but then you see this. It is shocking.'Councillor Lalley shares the residents' concerns, stating: 'You could furnish your house with this. I am worried about kids climbing on it. We need to get this cleared and get access to the road limited so only authorised people can get in. It is unsightly, poses health issues and impacts people's mental health.' The Scottish Road Partnership is now expected to take action to remove the waste and prevent further illegal dumping at the site
