There has not been that many opportunities to go to the beach this summer but on its day the beauty spot is even better than being abroad'
The Yorkshire coast is home to Filey Beach - a hidden treasure that has been described as "even better than being abroad" by delighted visitors.
With nearly 3,000 reviews on Tripadvisor, the vast majority rating the beach as 'excellent', and even recognised as 'among the best beaches in the world', we were optimistic that Filey, with its extensive five-mile stretch of sandy beach and rugged peninsula hugging the coast, would live up to expectations. After a lengthy and uneventful trip across the A64, we finally arrived in the quaint seaside town, welcomed by narrow streets and twisting lanes.
The roads, lined with parked cars, make parking a bit of a challenge. However, one must applaud the local authority for providing free parking - a rare sight in today's tourist hotspots where hourly charges are the norm. As you meander towards the coastline, you'll discover small cafes tucked away beneath the hilly landscape. These establishments offer outdoor seating and cater to all traditional seaside cravings, from ice-creams and iced coffees to fish and chips and fresh seafood.
School children were seen in droves, joyfully playing on the beach, building sandcastles and writing messages in the sand. For many, this was likely their first seaside experience, making their delight all the more heartening to witness.
