Mrs Justice Arbuthnot, who also oversees hearings in the Family Division of the High Court and is based at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, said evidence shows he is in a"permanent vegetative state" and will always need 24-hour care in a specialist"setting"."There is no evidence that he enjoys his current life," she said."All of the evidence is that he has no awareness of where he is or who he is or who is with him.

She said it is hard to see how he has any"dignity". Barrister Ben McCormack, who represents the man's relatives, told the judge they will consider an appeal.
